Avaunt® is very effective on target pests with minimal effect on beneficial insects and predators.

The active ingredient of Avaunt® is indoxacarb from the oxadiazine family of products and is the only member of this family being commercialised worldwide. Avaunt® acts by blocking the sodium pathway within the insect's nervous system. It acts primarily as a stomach poison but is also taken up by the insect through direct application and by contact with treated plant surfaces. Avaunt® can be described as a pro-insecticide, which means it does not become effective until it is activated inside the gut of the insect. This reduces mammalian toxicity and detrimental affects on non-target organisms. Avaunt® also has ovicidal activity on some insect species (such as codling moth).
